Earlier today, the 2022-2023 Premier’s Awards for Excellence were presented in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly.
The Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) annual Premier’s Award for Excellence recognizes the outstanding achievement of employees and working partners who continue to strive for excellence and improvements in the workplace.
This year Premier’s Awards were presented in three separate categories.
- Team: which recognizes the outstanding achievements of teams of GNWT employees who continue to strive for workplace excellence and innovation.
- Collaboration: which recognizes the outstanding achievement of GNWT employees who work in partnership with other government and non-government employees to improve services to Northwest Territories residents.
- Indigenous Partnership: which celebrates collaboration between the GNWT and Indigenous governments and organizations.
Also presented at the ceremony were the Dave Ramsden Career Excellence Award and the Kristine McLeod Emerging Indigenous Leader Award.
The GNWT remains committed to providing excellent public service to the residents of the Northwest Territories and is proud of the contributions of all NWT public servants.

- The Premier's Award for Team Excellence went to the Aurora Research Institute’s (ARI) STEM Outreach Team from Aurora College. This dedicated team has made significant strides in promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in the community, inspiring young minds to explore these critical fields.
- The Premier's Award for Collaboration Excellence was awarded to the North Slave Correctional Centre (NSCC) and the Department of Environment and Climate Change’s Trapper Training Team. Through their efforts, they have successfully fostered collaboration and shared expertise in the realm of sustainable trapping, supporting our local economy and respecting our natural resources.
- The Premier's Awards for Indigenous Partnership Excellence was presented to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) - Community Collaboration. Their commitment to bringing justice and closure to the families of MMIWG has been invaluable, making a profound impact on Indigenous communities.
- The Dave Ramsden Career Excellence Award was awarded to Barb Lennie. It recognizes the outstanding achievements and commitment of an individual who has served 20 years or more in the Government of the Northwest Territories public service.
- The Kristine McLeod Emerging Indigenous Leader Award was presented to Mahalia Yakaleya Newmark. This award was created with the support of the Gwich’in Tribal Council to honour the late Kristine McLeod. It recognizes a young Indigenous NWT resident that has demonstrated exceptional initiative and commitment to the principles of public service.
