The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is looking for two members of the public to join the Art Selection Committee for a two-year term starting September 1, 2023.
The Art Selection Committee evaluates applications for the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre’s (PWNHC) Mezzanine Gallery exhibit space on an annual basis. This is the first-time members from the arts community are being invited to participate and contribute to the selection of artwork that will be on display at the museum.
The Mezzanine Gallery provides artists with a space to showcase their art to the public. For six month periods, it hosts temporary exhibits that feature art representing the cultures and history of the NWT. The next call for Mezzanine Gallery art show submissions will take place in July 2023, with decisions being made after the committee is formed.
The arts and creative sector play an important role in preserving the NWT’s cultures and the GNWT is committed to working with members of the arts community to make northern art more accessible for all ages to enjoy.
NWT artists, craftspeople, and art enthusiasts interested in joining the Art Selection Committee can learn more and apply at www.ece.gov.nt.ca/art-selection-committee.
Applications will be shortlisted and provided to the NWT Arts Council, which will select two NWT residents (one Yellowknife and one non-Yellowknife member) to serve on the committee.
Quick facts
- The PWNHC is the GNWT’s museum and archives. It is operated by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, Government of the Northwest Territories.
- The creative community plays a central role in preserving the NWT’s arts, cultures, heritages, and languages, diversifying our local economies, and sharing the beauty of NWT art far and wide. The NWT Arts Strategy 2021-2031 sets out a vision for how the GNWT will help support the creative sector.
