Public Service Announcement

The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Vince McKay, tabled the 2025-2026 Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation Fund Annual Report in the Legislative Assembly today. The report provides an overview of the financial performance of the Western Canada Lottery Program and highlights how investments from the Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation (PASR) Fund support healthy, active, and connected communities across the Northwest Territories.

In 2025-2026, the PASR Fund invested $6.13 million in initiatives that support the goals of the NWT Active Living Framework. Funding enhanced athlete and coach development, Indigenous sport and cultural programming, community recreation and leadership initiatives, on-the-land programming, and participation in territorial and multisport events, including Team NT’s participation in the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.

Key highlights include:

  • More than $6.13 million invested in sport, recreation, active living, and multisport games initiatives across the Northwest Territories.
  • Funding supported athlete, coach, and official development, Indigenous sport and cultural programming, community recreation initiatives, leadership training, and on-the-land programming.
  • Team NT sent 355 athletes, coaches, cultural performers, and mission staff from 17 communities to the 2026 Arctic Winter Games.

The report shows that the Western Canada Lottery Program generated $5.4 million in sales during 2025-2026. This represents a 3.3 percent decrease from the previous year, reflecting ongoing pressures on lottery revenues.
