The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the Skills 4 Success Action Plan: 2021-2025. This four-year plan will serve as a roadmap to education, training and skills building activities and investments, with the goal of improving employment success for residents in the Northwest Territories (NWT).
Indigenous Governments, Indigenous organizations, residents, stakeholders and partners were invited to participate in online surveys, interviews, and virtual roundtables to provide their input on Skills 4 Success. This action plan is shaped by their feedback, as well as extensive labour market research, which predicts that the dynamics of the labour market in the NWT and the rest of Canada will experience changes in the coming years as the workforce ages and baby boomers reach retirement.
With an aging workforce and an expected economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition for skilled labour will likely intensify. The GNWT wants to ensure that NWT residents are the first in line for NWT jobs and employment opportunities.
The Skills 4 Success action plan is a critical tool that will strengthen the NWT workforce by helping residents succeed in adult and post-secondary education and skills training pursuits that lead to employment.
