Have Your Say: Adapting Wildlife Conservation/Management to Climate Change

Public Service Announcement

Climate change is impacting and altering landscapes, habitats and wildlife, which can have implications for the people and communities that rely on them. If you have ideas about adapting the territory’s wildlife management and conservation to a changing climate, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) wants to hear from you.

To help interested parties participate in this online engagement opportunity, a discussion paper entitled Adapting Wildlife Conservation and Management to Climate Change in the Northwest Territories has been prepared. The discussion paper poses questions and presents ideas, considerations and possible approaches to adapting wildlife management and conservation in the NWT to a rapidly changing environment.

Feedback received will set the stage for further conversations on this topic and will inform the GNWT’s efforts to:

  • identify a vision, goals and guiding principles for wildlife management and conservation in a changing climate;
  • better understand climate change risks and impacts, both positive and negative, on wildlife and their habitats; and
  • identify and prioritize actions for mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts on wildlife, their habitats and the people and communities that rely on them.

This engagement opportunity will be open from February 15 to March 28, 2024. Once engagement is complete, a “What We Heard” report will be developed summarizing feedback received and proposed steps forward.
