The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites all residents to help with renaming two Housing Northwest Territories  Buildings used for social housing in Yellowknife.

Share your suggestions for names for:

1. The new 50-Plex

5022 50 St, Yellowknife, NT X1A 1S5

This building includes 50 units of social housing: 25 barrier-free for seniors, 25 for small families, and ground-floor access to the North Slave District Office and Yellowknife Housing Authority Office.

2. Aspen Apartments

5204 51 St, Yellowknife, NT X1A 1T8

Originally named by the Federal Government, this building includes 36 units of social housing.

Between January 27 and February 10, 2026, residents will have the opportunity to submit their suggestions for new building names online through the Have Your Say webpage, which provides instructions for submission.

Consideration will be given to names that reflect the historical, cultural, and geographic significance of the Northwest Territories and to names that honour deceased persons who have made significant contributions to public life. When submitting a suggested name, please provide a brief description about its significance and relevance to the above criteria.
