December 9, 2011 – Recipients of the 2011-2012 High Performance Athlete Grant Program were announced today by the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, and Richard Daitch, President of the Sport North Federation.
The grants provide funding to high performance athletes from the Northwest Territories to assist with the expenses of training and competing. Each recipient is awarded funding based on athletic achievement and recognition on the national and international level. A list of athletes who are being supported in 2011-2012 is attached.
“These recipients are role models for youth and bring pride to communities across the Northwest Territories,” said Minister McLeod. “It’s great to see so many northern athletes doing so well on the national and international level. We are all proud of these athletes and happy to support them as they work towards their goals.”
“The Sport North Federation is a proud supporter of the High Performance Athlete Grant program,” said Richard Daitch. “The program helps highly committed athletes reach their goals and represent the North all over the world. Sport North wishes to congratulate these athletes on their success and achievements.”
Through its investment in the High Performance Athlete Grant program, the Government of the Northwest Territories is promoting healthy, active living among all NWT residents. Providing options for healthy activities gives northerners more opportunities to make healthy choices.
