News Releases

February 16, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland is pleased to announce that His Royal Highness Prince William and Miss. Catherine Middleton will visit the Northwest Territories this July during their Royal Visit to Canada.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on their first official visit to the NWT,” Premier Roland said. “This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the wonderful hospitality of NWT residents and some of the best of what the NWT has to offer to visitors.”

The Royal Tour by Prince William and Miss Middleton will include the NWT, Alberta, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Ottawa during June 30 to July 8, 2011.

Premier Roland said plans for the visit to the NWT are currently in the works and the Department of Canadian Heritage will publish a more detailed itinerary of the entire Canadian visit at a later date.

Their visit to the NWT and Canada will be exciting and very special as the Government of the Northwest Territories begins the planning to mark the 60th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty The Queen as Queen of Canada in 2012 for the NWT.

The last Royal Visit to the NWT was in 1994 when Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh visited Yellowknife, Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit (then part of the NWT).
