The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is introducing updates to its ATLAS interactive web map viewer to improve access to current information about the availability of land in the Northwest Territories.
The map viewer is an online tool that provides accurate mapping of each parcel of land in the Northwest Territories and displays real-time information about who administers the land and details about the parties interested in it. Some key improvements made to the system:
- New Data Platform: Data is sourced from a new data system, which may display updated terminology for easier understanding.
- Tenured Land layer: All interests are now contained in a single layer, clearly showing whether land tenure is pending (i.e., an application for tenure is being reviewed) or active (i.e., tenure has been issued).
- Subdivision Applications layer: A new layer displays open applications for subdivisions (surveys), making it easier to see where subdivision applications exist and to track their status.
In July 2024, ATLAS was updated to use data from a new data system, replacing the previous systems. As we work to make improvements, residents may experience occasional delays when loading ATLAS.
