September 7, 2011 - On Friday, September 9, 2011 the Government of the Northwest Territories, regional Health and Social Services Authorities and Non-Government Agencies will celebrate International FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) Awareness Day.
This day brings community groups together in a shared voice to educate Northerners about preventing FASD through alcohol-free pregnancy. Alcohol-free pregnancy is another healthy choice promoted by the Government of the Northwest Territories through www.choosenwt.ca.
A number of community activities will take place on Friday, September 9, 2011 across the NWT, including:
- Yellowknife Association for Community Living (YkACL) Public Awareness Walk and BreakFASD
Time: 9 AM.
Location: Walk will begin at the Centre for Northern Families and proceed down Franklin Avenue, ending with the BreakFASD at the Salvation Army
- Stanton Child Diagnostic Team Information Display
Time: Noon-1 PM
Location: Stanton Territorial Hospital
- Fort Liard Information Displays
Time: TBD
Location: Hamlet Office, Community Hall, Health Centre and Gas Bar
