‘Interwoven’ basketry exhibit at PWNHC features handcrafted baskets and woven creations by Cathie Harper

Yellowknife — June 13, 2022

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) is pleased to announce a new exhibit featuring the handcrafted woven artwork of Cathie Harper. It is opening this week at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) on June 16, 2022.

The new exhibit features handcrafted baskets and non-traditional woven artwork made from dogwood, cedar, birch bark, yarn, hemp, wire and more. Visitors will be able to see her process, starting with the collection, soaking, and drying of wild materials, followed by experimentation with weaving techniques, textures, and the addition of unconventional materials.

Date: Thursday, June 16, 2022

Time: 7 to 8:30 pm

Location: Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, Yellowknife

The event will include bannock, refreshments, and speeches.

‘Interwoven’ is on display from June 16 to December, 2022 and can be viewed Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
