YELLOWKNIFE (November 9, 2012) – Today Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and Minister Responsible for Youth, announced the release of the NWT Youth Leadership Plan, a strategy designed to improve the reach and impact of Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) youth investments.
“The Department invests nearly $2 million in youth programs annually,” said McLeod. “The strategic plan will help improve the reach of those investments and, over the longer term, guide decisions about projects we support using evidence-based evaluation and monitoring.”
The development of the Youth Leadership Plan was informed by in-depth consultation with over 500 youth and the organizations that serve them. Results from the 2011 Forging the Future youth conference were also used to develop the strategic plan.
The plan is available online at the MACA site.
Supporting youth programming in our communities is one of the ways the GNWT is working towards the 17th Legislative Assembly’s goals of healthy, educated people free from poverty and sustainable, vibrant and safe communities.
