Listening, Learning, Preparing For Next Time: GNWT Launches Review of 2021 Flood Response

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — April 12, 2022

The GNWT is launching an after-action review in which community governments, flood-affected residents, businesses, and those who participated in the emergency response will have their say on the territory’s 2021 flood response and disaster assistance.

Following an emergency, an after-action review is the standard practice to evaluate the response.
The GNWT, led by the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), is seeking feedback from:

  • Community governments who were at risk of flooding in 2021
  • Local emergency management organizations
  • Regional emergency management organizations
  • Flood-affected residents and businesses
  • Partners in disaster response (i.e., local emergency responders)

The online survey will be open until April 28, 2022, and can be found at: https://haveyoursay.nwt-tno.ca/

Direct outreach and meetings will also occur with community governments and territorial officials.

The GNWT will release the after-action report outlining feedback received as well as lessons learned, and recommendations for improvement.
