February 2, 2011 - The academic accomplishments of apprentices in the North Slave region are being celebrated at lunch tomorrow in the Yellowknife Fieldhouse. The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, and Canadian celebrity and professional contractor, Mike Holmes, will present awards to apprentices who have achieved the highest mark in their respective levels of technical training in 2009-2010.
“These individuals are role models and represent the future of the Northwest Territories,” says Minister Lafferty. “Developing and supporting opportunities for apprentices and trainees is key to meeting the needs of all industries in our territory.”
There are over 400 registered apprentices across the NWT. Of these students, 41 achieved Top Mark status and 68 made the Honour Roll. Honour roll recipients are apprentices who achieve a minimum mark of 80% in their technical training course.
The North Slave High Mark Awards Ceremony is part of the Construction North of 60 Conference and Tradeshow, hosted by the NWT Construction Association, taking place in Yellowknife February 2-3. Two special awards, the Karl Meyer Memorial Award and the Top Graduating Apprentice Award, will also be awarded. The ceremony is one of several taking place throughout the territory to recognize the success of our apprentices.
