Minister of Justice, R.J. Simpson, joins the RCMP in the Northwest Territories in welcoming its new Commanding Officer of “G” Division, Chief Superintendent Sydney (Syd) Lecky:
“I am pleased to welcome Chief Superintendent Lecky to his new position. RCMP in the Northwest Territories play a critical role in preserving community safety and I look forward to advancing our shared goals and priorities under his leadership. Chief Superintendent Lecky has over 26 years of experience in policing, is a member of the Peskotomuhkati First Nation, and is coming to the Northwest Territories from Kamloops, British Columbia where he has been the Officer in Charge.
“The NWT policing priorities for 2022/23 include promoting trust and confidence in policing services, ensuring an effective response to illegal drugs and alcohol, and promoting operational and fiscal innovation. Chief Superintendent Lecky has a wealth of experience that will serve him and “G” Division as they work together with communities to address these priorities. I am confident that under his command, “G” Divisions will continue to strive for steady improvement in the community policing model we have in the NWT.
“I would also like to thank Chief Superintendent Jamie Zettler for his service and dedication to the people of the Northwest Territories during his tenure as the Commanding Officer of “G” Division for over 5 years.”
