December 3, 2010 - Minister Floyd K. Roland has announced today the appointment of Mr. Brendan Bell as Chair of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation for a three year term.
The former GNWT Minister Responsible for Energy brings key northern political experience to the Corporation’s leadership, along with a valuable understanding of the NWT’s energy potential and marketplace.
“Mr. Bell’s unique qualifications and experience are well suited for the important next steps that this Government and NTPC will take in the coming months to meet the challenges and demands of our changing northern energy environment,” Mr. Roland noted.
A former Member of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Mr. Bell served two terms before retiring from territorial politics in 2007 and running as a candidate for the Western Arctic riding in the 2008 federal election.
He also served as a member of the Alberta Provincial Energy Strategy Advisory Committee, which advised the Alberta Government on its new energy strategy, and as the external Chair of the NWT Association of Municipalities Electricity Working Group.
Mr. Bell will lead the Board in providing guidance and direction to NTPC, NT Hydro and its subsidiaries.
