YELLOWKNIFE (July 11, 2013) – The deadline to submit an application for a $5,000 scholarship under the Northern Aviation Scholarship program is fast approaching. All applications must be submitted by July 26, 2013 to be considered.

Those who are considering full-time training for a career related to the North’s aviation industry must apply by the deadline to be considered. Applicants who do not have confirmation of acceptance into their planned training program should still apply and submit that confirmation when it is available.

Transportation Minister David Ramsay says the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) investment in northern aviation training is a good one that will provide dividends for many years to come. “Through this program, we are signaling our support for the next generation of aviators, aviation planners and airport operations specialists,” he said. “Training opens the door to support their role in the future of our northern aviation industry.”

The GNWT’s contribution to the Northern Aviation Scholarship program helps support priorities of the 17th Assembly to strengthen and diversify the NWT economy and increase employment opportunities. The Department of Transportation and the Government of Nunavut each contribute up to $30,000 annually for Northern Aviation Scholarships. In addition, scholarships are provided by the Scholarship program’s airline partners: Discovery Air, Keewatin Air, North-Wright Airways, and First Air.
