Recommendations from Critical Incident Investigation

News Releases

YELLOWKNIFE (February 27, 2017) - Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy issued the following update regarding an external investigation into a critical incident in 2016:

“As committed in September 2016, today I am sharing the recommendations arising from the external investigation into a critical incident that was carried out in 2016. Quality improvement activities such as this review demonstrate our commitment to the residents we serve.

Many of these recommendations are well aligned with the work the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) and Health and Social Services Authorities (HSSAs) are already undertaking on cultural competence, and in areas such as home care, staff training and improved communication protocols.  I will be directing the DHSS and HSSAs with assigning responsibility for review and consideration of each of these recommendations, and we will take action to improve in all areas where we have the justification and resources to do so.”
