The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is accepting nominations for the 2026 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This is your opportunity to recognize the individuals or groups whose volunteer efforts strengthen and enrich communities across the Northwest Territories.

All nominations must be submitted by November 18, 2026.

About the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards

The NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards are an annual recognition of volunteers who make a difference in their communities. Whether it’s a friend, neighbour, or group, we all know volunteers who give selflessly – helping at schools, providing food for those in need, preserving culture, and supporting those who need it most. This program celebrates their dedication and contribution to making our communities better places to live.

Categories for the Awards

The NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards recognize individuals and groups in four categories:

• Youth (under 25)
• Individual (25-54)
• Elder (55+)
• Group

Awards recipients will receive:

• A $1,000 grant to donate to an organization of their choice.
• An award recognizing their efforts and commitment to community-building through volunteerism.

How to Nominate

Anyone can nominate an individual or group that has shown exceptional commitment to volunteer work. Simply fill out the online nomination form or download the PDF form here to complete offline. Nominations can be mailed, faxed, or submitted to your MACA Regional office or the Sport, Recreation, and Youth Division office in Yellowknife.

What to Include in the Nomination

The nomination form asks for:

• Type of Involvement: Details of the volunteer work, frequency, any personal challenges overcome, and leadership roles.
• Level of Impact on the Community: Description of the benefits and improvements brought to the community through their work.
• Please include any other relevant information to highlight why the nominee deserves this award.

Eligibility

Only Northwest Territories residents are eligible.
