Nominations Open for the 2011 Education Hall of Fame

February 24, 2011 - Nominations for the 2011 Education Hall of Fame are now being accepted. This year, one inductee from each region in the territory and a Minister’s Choice Award will be awarded, for a total of seven inductees.

“The Education Hall of Fame is a great opportunity to recognize residents who support education, from teachers to coaches, custodians, volunteers, community businesses or sponsors,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty. “With so many dedicated individuals across the territory, we are now honouring one inductee per region.”

The Department is accepting nominations until Thursday, March 31, 2011. Electronic nomination forms are available on ECE’s website at at regional ECE Service Centres and District Education Council offices.

A Selection Committee will review the nominations and select the inductees. The Committee is comprised of three representatives from ECE, a representative from Aurora College and a representative from the Superintendent’s Association. ECE’s Deputy Minister will chair the Committee.

Successful nominees will be announced in April. The Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.

Through initiatives such as the Education Hall of Fame, the Government of the Northwest Territories is taking action to enhance education and develop healthy, educated residents, as envisioned in the 16th Legislative Assembly’s Northerners Working Together plan.
