NWT Alert Testing

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — May 5, 2026

On May 6, 2026, at 9:55 am the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories (NWT) public alerting system.

Residents should see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, cable networks and radio stations across the NWT.

Some residents may not receive the test alert on their wireless device. This may occur for a variety of reasons, including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, or device software and settings.

To help ensure you receive NWT Alert notifications, check your device’s compatibility on your wireless service provider’s website and make sure your device software is up to date.

NWT Alert is the NWT’s public alerting system and part of the larger Alert Ready system. This is a partnership among federal, provincial, and territorial emergency management officials, Environment Canada and the broadcast industry designed to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio, and wireless devices.
