Fort Providence – Update: Evacuation Notice
The Community of Fort Providence is advising residents that the Community has de-escalated the Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Notice due to a decreased fire risk at this time. The Evacuation Notice signals that there is still an active fire in the area and residents should keep informed by reading the updates issued by NWT Fire and the Hamlet of Fort Providence.
Please remain informed and prepared for changing conditions. Residents should stay vigilant about current conditions and be ready to evacuate if necessary, due to wildfire activity in the area.
Stage 3 of Fort Providence’s Re-Entry Plan started at 12:00PM today, Thursday, September 11, 2025. This is the final stage of the community’s re-entry plan.

Jean Marie River – Evacuation Alert
Tthets’éhk’édélı̨ First Nation issued an evacuation alert on September 2, 2025 advising residents of Jean Marie River to be prepared in case they have to evacuate due to wildfire activity in the area. This evacuation alert remains in place. Updates can be found on the community Facebook Page. Local residents are instructed to check with the Band Office if they have questions.

Services for Fort Providence Evacuees
The Hay River Community has closed its evacuation reception centre and all evacuee services have closed.
If anyone needs to report a missing person, contact the RCMP at 9-1-1 or 867-669-1111.
Health Care
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) wishes to advise the public that the re-opening plan for the Community Health and Social Services Centre in Fort Providence has been initiated.
On Thursday, September 11th and Friday, September 12th, the Community Health and Social Services Centre will be open, but offering reduced services. This means that urgent care will be available, however regular appointments or non-urgent requests may be deferred. The Community Health Nurses have begun communicating with clients, but should you have immediate questions or need more information, please contact the health centre at 867-699-4311.
For medical emergencies, please present in-person, call the after-hours on call number at 867-373-0195 or call 911.

Emergency Evacuation Relief Program
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is reminding residents from Whatì and Fort Providence to apply for the Emergency Evacuation Relief Program (EERP).
The program provides $800 per adult and $400 per dependent under 18 years old to residents who left their community because of the recent evacuation orders.
The fastest and easiest way to apply is through the online application portal.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
• Eligible residents must apply within 14 days after an evacuation order is lifted. The deadline for Whatì residents to apply is September 20. The Fort Providence deadline will be set when the evacuation order is lifted.
• Please submit one application only to avoid delays.

Income Assistance
Income Assistance recipients from Whatì or Fort Providence who received Income Assistance during the month of August 2025 and are affected by wildfires, will be issued the Emergency Allowance benefits.
The rate of emergency allowance is:
