Performing Artist Nadine Neema celebrates launch of audiobook at PWNHC

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — April 19, 2023

Join Montreal singer-songwriter Nadine Neema for the audiobook launch of her award-nominated Journal of a Travelling Girl on April 22, 2023, held at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC).

Journal of a Travelling Girl tells the story of an eleven-year-old girl’s journey by canoe through the ancestral lands of the Tłı̨chǫ people to attend the signing of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement in 2005.  Along the way she gradually comes to understand and appreciate their culture and the significance of their fight for self-government.

Inspired by true events, this story was written at the request of John B. Zoe, Chief Negotiator of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement, as a way of teaching the Tłı̨chǫ youth about that landmark achievement.

Join us on Saturday, April 22 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm:

  • 1:30 to 2 pm: Tłı̨chǫ Drummers and Feeding of the Fire
  • 2 to 3:30 pm: Readings by Nadine Neema, short film, and musical performance by Nadine

Tea and bannock will be available in the Café after the event.

This event is free of charge.
