YELLOWKNIFE (March 24, 2015) – Premier Bob McLeod announced today that Mr. David Stewart has been named as Associate Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) effective May 11, 2015 and will assume the position of Deputy Minister of ECE on August 1, 2015. Mr. Stewart will be taking over from current Associate Deputy Minister Dana Heide and current Deputy Minister Gabriela Eggenhofer, who are both retiring in coming months.

“Mr. Stewart is an experienced senior manager and leader who has contributed positively to the success of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) in his current position,” said Premier McLeod. “I look forward to working with him in his new role this spring.”

Mr. Stewart is currently the President of the NWT Housing Corporation, where he has been responsible for leading the implementation of Building for the Future, the GNWT’s strategic framework for addressing housing needs. Work has included significant improvements to public housing rent scales, homeownership programs, supports to low- and moderate-income residents in private market rental housing and assistance for homeless people. During his tenure, the NWTHC made significant investment in improving the quality of the public housing stock, started construction on five new seniors independent living facilities, and contributed to the construction and opening of Lynn’s Place, a women’s safe housing building in Yellowknife. His previous positions include Assistant Deputy Minister of Executive Operations with the Department of Executive and Territorial Statistician.

Mr. Stewart will work closely with outgoing Deputy Minister Eggenhofer and Associate Deputy Minister Heide to ensure a smooth leadership transition at ECE. Ms. Eggenhofer is retiring on August 1st, 2015 after 25 years with the GNWT. Mr. Heide is retiring on June 5, 2015 after 25 years of service.

“Ms. Eggenhofer and Mr. Heide have dedicated their careers to helping build a strong, healthy Northwest Territories,” said Premier McLeod. “I have enjoyed working with both of them over the years and thank them for their service to the people of the NWT. I wish both of them well on the next phase of their lives.”

Ongoing succession planning and progressively developing its staff are part of the GNWT’s commitment to ensuring a strong public service that is positioned to effectively manage and deliver the government programs and services the people of the NWT rely on.

A replacement for Mr. Stewart at the NWTHC will be announced in coming weeks.

Yellowknife, le 24 mars 2015 – Le premier ministre Bob McLeod a annoncé aujourd’hui la nomination de M. David Stewart au poste de sous-ministre associé du ministère de l’Éducation, de la Culture et de la Formation (MÉCF) à compter du 11 mai 2015; il assumera les fonctions de sous-ministre à partir du 1er août 2015. M. Stewart prend la relève des actuels sous-ministres associés, Dana Heide et Gabriela Eggenhofer, qui partiront tous deux à la retraite au cours des prochains mois.

« M. Stewart est un cadre supérieur et un haut dirigeant expérimenté qui a, à son poste actuel, contribué au dynamisme du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) », a déclaré le premier ministre. « Je me réjouis de travailler avec lui à partir du printemps. »

Stewart occupe actuellement le poste de président de la Société d’habitation des TNO qui lui a permis de piloter la mise en œuvre de Construire pour l’avenir, le cadre stratégique du GTNO pour combler les besoins en logement. Son travail a apporté d’importantes améliorations à l’échelle des loyers des logements sociaux, aux programmes d’accès à la propriété, aux soutiens aux résidents à revenu faible ou modique dans le marché privé du logement locatif et à l’aide aux personnes sans abri. Pendant son mandat, la SHTNO a considérablement investi dans l’amélioration de la qualité des logements sociaux, a lancé la construction de cinq nouveaux établissements pour le logement de personnes âgées autonomes, et a contribué à la construction et à l’ouverture de Lynn’s Place, un immeuble de logements sécuritaires pour les femmes à Yellowknife. M. Stewart a précédemment occupé les fonctions de sous-ministre associé des opérations de l’exécutif au ministère de l’Exécutif, et de statisticien territorial.

Stewart collaborera étroitement avec les sous-ministres associés sortants, MmeEggenhofer et M. Heide, afin d’assurer une transition en douceur au MÉCF. Mme Eggenhofer prendra sa retraite le 1er août 2015 après 25 années de service au GTNO, et M. Heide partira à la retraite le 5 juin 2015 après 25 années de service.

« Mme Eggenhofer et M. Heide ont consacré leur carrière à consolider le dynamisme des Territoires du Nord-Ouest », a ajouté M. McLeod. « J’ai pris plaisir à travailler avec eux pendant toutes ces années et je les remercie pour leurs services rendus à la population des TNO. Je leur souhaite bonne continuation pour la prochaine étape de leur vie. »

La planification de la relève et le perfectionnement progressif du personnel s’inscrivent dans l’engagement du GTNO à assurer une fonction publique solide en mesure de gérer et de fournir avec efficacité les programmes et les services gouvernementaux sur lesquels les Ténois comptent.

Le nom de la personne remplaçant M. Stewart à la SHTNO sera annoncé dans les semaines à venir.
