TORONTO – Premier R.J. Simpson issued the following statement today following his participation in the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto:
“Canada is at an important moment.
The world around us is changing quickly. Countries are thinking differently about economic security, supply chains, energy, defence and the infrastructure they need for the future. Here at home, there is a growing recognition that Canada needs to build again, and that we need to move with greater urgency to turn interest and opportunity into real projects.
That is what made this week’s Canada Investment Summit so important.
This week Prime Minister Carney brought together global investors, business leaders, federal ministers and provincial and territorial premiers for serious and inspiring conversations about Canada’s future, what we need to build, and how we get it done. I want to thank him for his vision in convening us.
The North has an essential role to play in the work ahead.
The Northwest Territories has the critical minerals Canada and its allies need, major transportation and energy projects that can unlock new economic opportunities, a strategic position in the Arctic, and Indigenous governments and businesses with decades of experience as partners in responsible resource development.
Investing in the North is not simply about developing the North. It is about strengthening Canada’s economy, securing our supply chains, advancing Arctic sovereignty and creating the infrastructure our country will need for generations.
This week gave us an opportunity to put that case directly to investors and decision-makers, build relationships with people who can help move projects forward, and hear what it will take to turn opportunity into investment and get more projects built.
The opportunity in front of Canada is enormous, but the measure of this moment will ultimately be what we actually get built.
In the Northwest Territories, we are doing the work now to advance projects, strengthen Indigenous partnerships and create the conditions to attract more investment.
Canada is ready to build again. The Northwest Territories is ready to help build it.”
