Northwest Territories Premier R.J. Simpson issued the following statement today on the conclusion of the 2025 Northern Premiers’ Forum in Haines Junction, Yukon:
"The Northern Premiers’ Forum is always an important opportunity to connect with my colleagues from Yukon and Nunavut, and to work together on the challenges we share. This year’s meeting felt especially energizing.
We had honest and productive conversations about issues that matter to Northerners — from Arctic security and housing to health care and growing the economy.
With a new federal government taking shape in Ottawa and more national attention on the North, it’s more important than ever that we stand together and speak with a clear and united voice.
By working together as Northern governments, and in partnership with Indigenous governments and communities, we can keep pushing for the investments and support Northerners need and deserve.
I want to thank Premier Pillai for hosting this year’s Forum, and Mayor Diane Strand, Chief Barb Joe, the people of Haines Junction and the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations for their incredible hospitality. Their warm welcome and the beauty of their community made this meeting especially memorable.
As the Northwest Territories takes on the role of chair for next year’s Forum, I look forward to continuing this work with my colleagues. Together, we will keep advancing Northern priorities and building stronger, healthier communities across the North."
