Northwest Territories Premier R.J. Simpson issued the following statement today on the election of John Main:

“On behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories, I extend my sincere congratulations to John Main, whom the members of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly have chosen as their new Premier-elect.

I look forward to working with Premier-elect Main and with the Government of Nunavut on the issues that matter most to Northerners. The three Northern Premiers have built a strong, collaborative relationship that has shown how powerful a united Northern voice can be. I look forward to continuing that work alongside Premier-elect Main and Premier Dixon in Yukon.”

“I would also like to thank outgoing Premier P.J. Akeeagok for his leadership, his partnership, and his friendship over the years. I wish him well as he returns to private life with his family.”
