The Psychology Profession Regulations came into force today, making psychologists the second profession to be regulated under the Health and Social Services Professions Act, which that came into force in March 2022. The Act enables the government to regulate numerous professions under a single law.
The development of the regulations was informed by consultation with the Association of Psychologists of the NWT (APNWT), the College of Alberta Psychologists, all Health and Social Services Authorities in the NWT, and other professional associations. The regulations include the profession-specific requirements unique to psychologists, such as training required to be eligible for a licence, code of ethics, and a continuing competency program.
