The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) alerts the public to a text scam concerning a “COVID-19 response benefit from GNWT Economic Relief.”
Cybercriminals are sending fraudulent text messages alerting residents that they can claim a $750 COVID-19 response benefit and directing them to click on a link.
Do not click on any link in the message or share personal information. The GNWT will never ask you to provide, confirm or verify personal, login, or account information through text message. The GNWT won’t ask you via text message to click on a link.
Do not reply to the message or call the number provided.
There are a number of reported scams related to COVID-19. All residents who have received this message are encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
