Scheduled Telecommunications Maintenance May Impact Services in Yellowknife and Surrounding Communities

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — June 24, 2026

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is advising residents of a planned telecommunications service disruption during scheduled emergency repair work by Northwestel.

The work will take place on June 25, 2026, from 12:01 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. (MST) along Highway 3. During this time, full service outages are expected, affecting phone, cellular, internet services, and 9-1-1 emergency services.

The outage is expected to impact residents in:

  • Yellowknife
  • Dettah
  • Edzo
  • Behchokǫ̀
  • Whatì

Residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 first in an emergency. If you are unable to reach 9-1-1, an alternate emergency contact number will be available: 780-628-2483. This number uses a backup system and may be reachable via Wi‑Fi calling or from outside the affected network.

For non-urgent health advice, call 8-1-1 to speak with a registered nurse.

If you cannot reach emergency services by phone:

  • Proceed to your local RCMP detachment in person for police assistance.
  • For urgent medical needs, go directly to the nearest health facility.
