Spectacular NWT Days launches in downtown Ottawa

News Releases

OTTAWA (February 1, 2013) – Premier Bob McLeod and Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay will host Spectacular NWT Days at Winterlude, celebrating the territory’s culture and showcasing economic and investment opportunities.

“We’re showing off our spectacular Northwest Territories at one of the largest winter festivals in Canada,” said Premier McLeod. “Tourism contributes to a diversified economy that provides all communities and regions with opportunities and choices. We offer authentic cultural getaways you can’t experience anywhere else. People who come to Spectacular NWT Days will see unique musical and cultural performances, enjoy our beautiful works of art, get up close and personal with a polar bear, and see the northern lights dancing in the sky.”

“NWT Days gives us an opportunity to build relationships, profile business opportunities and showcase our amazing tourism experiences,” said Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, David Ramsay. “To many Canadians, the NWT is the land of polar bears, ice, and snow, and there is so much more to our territory than that. Here at NWT Days, we are showcasing the ‘more’ ─ our vibrant cultures, our beautiful land and our economic potential.”

The family-friendly and interactive pavilion will provide visitors with an authentic glimpse into the Northwest Territories’ history, culture, and land. The opening ceremonies will feature the star of Arctic Air and NWT Tourism Ambassador Adam Beach, Juno-Award-winner and singer/songwriter Leela Gilday, and a demonstration of Arctic games by youth ambassadors.
