May 3, 2011 - Premier Roland today congratulates Hon. Stephen Harper and says he looks forward to building on the strong working relationship that the Government of the Northwest Territories has fostered with the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada.
“Prime Minister Harper’s commitment to northern sovereignty, job creation and nationwide economic rebuilding and the Conservative Government’s endorsement of the Mackenzie Gas Project in March align closely with our goals to maximize the benefits of sustainable development for the benefit of our residents and businesses,” the Premier noted.
Premier Roland says a Conservative Majority Government means that federal investments included in the Tory budget for the Mackenzie Valley Highway can now go ahead – along with negotiations to devolve administrative responsibility for public lands and resources.
“Now is the time to invest in nation building infrastructure projects in Canada’s North that will create thousands of jobs for Canadians, spur economic recovery and foster decades of economic growth for our country, Premier Roland said.
Premier Floyd Roland today also offered his congratulations to the returning Western Arctic Member of Parliament, Dennis Bevington.
“I look forward to establishing a better working relationship with Mr. Bevington, as he takes on the challenging tasks of building and supporting our Territory’s relationship with Canada and advancing the interests of our Territory as a Member of the Official Opposition,” the Premier said.
