The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is reaching out to any Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) who are currently residents in the NWT but not licensed to work in their trained profession as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
The GNWT has heard anecdotally that there are IENs currently living in the NWT who are facing challenges in obtaining the necessary licensure to practice. The GNWT wants to hear directly from those individuals, and is launching an online survey, which will run from April 24 to May 25, to gather baseline information on the number of IENs who are not working within their trained profession in the NWT, and the nature of the barriers they are experiencing, as well as their background practice experience.
The GNWT is conducting this survey to identify and to better understand the challenges faced by IENs. The survey is for information-gathering purposes only, and the findings will help inform future recommendations for the Health and Social Services system.
