News Releases

February 7, 2011 - From February 11-27 more than 120 athletes, coaches, mission staff and cultural performers will represent Team NWT at the upcoming Jeux de Canada Winter Games being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), Robert C. McLeod, says the Canada Winter Games is an important event that encourages youth to live healthy, active lifestyles.

“The dedicated athletes, artists, coaches and volunteers should be applauded for the countless hours they have spent preparing for this important national celebration of sport and Canadian culture,” said Minister McLeod. “They are shining examples of NWT residents leading healthy lifestyles and building strong communities.”

Team NWT is competing in 11 sports and participating in the arts programs at the Games.

By investing in multisport games, like the Canada Winter Games, the Government of the Northwest Territories is working to build our future by promoting healthy and active living among children and youth. Improving the physical and mental wellbeing of our youth will create healthy, educated Northerners as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s vision of Northerners Working Together.
