Fish for Sale: A History of Commercial Fishing on Great Slave Lake, a feature exhibition at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC), is hitting the road!
The travelling version of Fish for Sale is an interactive exhibit housed in a re-purposed skid shack (fishing caboose). It will travel to select communities in the North Slave and South Slave regions beginning in August before it finally weighs anchor at the Hay River Heritage Centre as a permanent exhibit.
Get caught up in fascinating fishing tales, see a replica of the lake’s biggest whitefish and meet famous fishers from yesterday and today, all contained in a 10x16 foot box!
The exhibit includes fishing-related programming and a pre-recorded audio guided tour of the caboose/mini-museum. Look for the bright blue skid shack coming to a community near you!
Here’s the full schedule:
- Dettah – August 22-23 at the Xat’ǫ̀ (Fall) Gathering
- Behchokǫ̀ – September 11-12 at Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School
- Fort Providence – September 18-19 at Deh Gah School
- Fort Resolution – October 2-3 at Mission Island
- Kátł’odeeche First Nation – October 9 at Chief Sunrise Education Centre
Once the tour is complete, the Caboose will welcome visitors at the Hay River Heritage Centre, as a legacy of the important role the community has played in the history of commercial fishing.
