Twin Falls Territorial Park – Trail and Viewing Platform Closure

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — June 2, 2026

The Twin Falls Park Trail is closed due to erosion along the riverbank. This erosion creates a serious risk to the public. If you hope to visit the territorial parks in the area, please plan accordingly.

The Twin Falls Park Trail closure includes the entire 5 km riverside trail connecting:

  • Alexandra Falls Day Use Area
  • Louise Falls Campground
  • Escarpment Creek Camping Area

This trail is closed between these locations, meaning public access is restricted.

All viewing platforms remain closed due to erosion: two at Alexandra Falls and one at Louise Falls. The Louise Falls Campground and the Alexandra Falls rest stop amenities (washroom and picnic tables) remain open.

Access to the riverbank located along the short section of trail above Alexandra Falls is currently impacted by high water levels and is temporarily closed until the water levels are no longer a public safety risk.

Escarpment Creek remains closed while wildfire remediation work continues.

While in the park, visitors should respect all signs and posted closures.

There is no confirmed timeline for reopening the erosion-impacted areas because of the extent of the damage. A full geotechnical assessment of the area is required to understand what needs to be done in order to make the area safe enough to reopen. Closures will remain in place until trails and infrastructure are improved and the area is deemed safe for public access.
