November 4, 2011 - Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) David Ramsay, presented the 2010 Parks Hospitality Award to Reid Lake Territorial Park operators Al and Mary Morton.

The Minister presented the award at the NWT Tourism Gala and Awards Dinner on Nov. 3. The Gala dinner was the closing event for the NWT Tourism Annual General Meeting and Conference held in Yellowknife Nov. 2 – 3.

The Parks Hospitality Award was created in 2005 to recognize people who exhibit extraordinary hospitality and service in NWT parks and visitor centres. Accepting the award on Al and Mary’s behalf was their daughter Pam and son-in-law Richard Walker.

“The Mortons are an ideal example of the outstanding people that staff our territorial parks,” said Minister David Ramsay. “It is people like Mr. and Mrs. Morton, who regularly go above and beyond in giving superior service to their guests and helping to ensure visitors to the Northwest Territories get the very best experience in our beautiful parks and campgrounds.”

This is the second time the Mortons have been awarded with the Parks Hospitality Award, having also won it in 2006.

Parks and visitor centre staff members are considered for the award through nominations submitted by visitors to the territory. Nomination forms are available at visitor centres, parks and campgrounds across the territory.
