Current StatusThe Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be applying the Disaster Assistance Policy (DAP) for communities and surrounding areas in the Northwest Territories where widespread property or infrastructure damage has been experienced and recovery efforts are required.

Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) Minister Shane Thompson has renewed the Territorial State of Emergency that was originally declared on August 15, 2023 due to the wildfire situation across multiple Northwest Territories (NWT) regions.
The fire ban in effect at the McKinnon Territorial Park in Norman Wells has been lifted.
