A fire at the Mackenzie Place Apartments (also known as the Hay River High-Rise) on March 15, 2019, resulted in extensive damage to the 11th floor and below and displaced approximately 150 residents.

Mr. Speaker, community governments are an important partner for the Government of the Northwest Territories and we continue to be one of the only jurisdictions in Canada that provides ongoing funding to this level of government.
