Changes to the NWT eServices portal
As of March 31, you won’t be able to use NTKey or a Sign-in Partner to sign into the NWT eServices portal. Moving forward, users can sign on to the site using their own email and password along with two-factor authentication. Select one of the following options to help you sign in:
I am a new user: I have never used NWT eServices and a do not have an account.
I am a returning user: I have an NWT eServices account and have used a sign-in partner or NTKey to sign in.
A small number of returning users may have difficulty accessing services they previously used. If you require assistance, please contact eService Support at 1-833-223-1133 or eservice_support@gov.nt.ca.
NEW USERS: Creating a new account
- Go to https://services.nwt-tno.ca/ and select “Create Account”. This will open the “Create Individual Account/Créer un compte individual” page.
- Enter all the required information and review the Terms and Conditions.
- Your password must be at least 12 characters long and include at least one lowercase letter, at least one uppercase letter as well as at least one number and special character.
- You must check the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions to proceed.
- Select Create Account to have a verification email sent to the address you provided.
- If you do not receive the message within ten minutes, check to make sure that you entered your email address correctly. Also make sure that your message wasn’t sent to Junk or Spam.
- Open the verification email and select Verify My Account. The link will expire in 20 minutes.
- A window will appear asking you to validate your email address. Check to make sure your email is correct and select Confirm. You will receive an email to confirm that your new account has been created.
Signing in for the first time with your new password
You can now sign to your eServices account using the email and password you created. Please note that the eServices portal now require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to sign in to your account. After you’ve entered your email and password, an email with a 2FA code will be sent to your email address. You will need to enter this code on the eServices site to sign in.
After you’ve entered the 2FA code, you will be taken to your eServices dashboard, where you can choose the services you want to access.
NOTE: If you are signing in on a shared computer, make sure you log-out after your session is over by clicking on your name in the top-right corner and choosing Sign out.
EXISTING ESERVICES USERS: Accessing the new portal for the first time
- Visit https://services.nwt-tno.ca/ and Select Reset Password to continue.
- Enter the email address you currently use with your eServices account, then select Send Email. This will send password‑reset message to your account. If you do not receive an email:
- confirm that the email address you entered is correct (and is currently linked to your eServices account); and
- check that your message wasn’t sent to Junk or Spam.
- Open the email and click the link provided. This will take you to a new page where you can create and confirm your new password. Click Reset when done.
- A new window will appear to confirm that your password has been changed (You will also receive an email notification). Click Sign-in to Your Account to go back to the eServices sign-in page.
Signing in for the first time with your new password
You can now sign to your eServices account using your email and the new password you created. Please note that the eServices portal now require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to sign in to your account. After you’ve entered your email and password, an email with a 2FA code will be sent to your email address. You will need to enter this code on the eServices site to sign in.
After you’ve entered the 2FA code, you will be asked to accept the updated terms and conditions for the new eServices portal. After you have acknowledged the terms and conditions. you will be taken to your eServices dashboard, where you can choose the services you want to access.
NOTE: If you are signing in on a shared computer, make sure you log-out after your session is over by clicking on your name in the top-right corner and choosing Sign out.
Adding Services to Your Account
To add a service to Favourite Services:
- Select the star icon on the service you want to add.
- Choose Refresh Dashboard to see the service appear under Favourite Services.
Removing Services From Your Account
If you no longer want to use a service:
- Open the service and select Remove Consent.
- Removing consent stops new data from being shared with the department and prevents further use of the service.
- Removing consent does not erase your existing information or affect any in‑progress applications.
- To erase, amend, or request a copy of your information, contact the GNWT department listed in the service’s Contact Information section.
Adding a Phone Number for Two‑Factor Authentication
You can also enter your mobile phone number receive texts instead of emails for Two-Factor Authentication.
- Sign in at https://services.nwt-tno.ca/
- Select the arrow next to your name and open Profile Settings.
- Go to Security → Two‑Factor Authentication.
- Enter your password, then select Confirm.
- Choose Manage Phone Numbers, then Add Phone.
- Set Phone Type to Mobile, enter the number, and select Save.
- Enter the verification code sent to your phone, then select Verify.
- Your phone number is now available for 2FA. At your next login, the system will send your 2FA code by text message instead of email.
Privacy and security
- To protect your personal information, the NWT eServices Portal follows territorial privacy legislation and includes industry-recognized security features.
- Your account information is not shared with anyone.
Reporting suspicious activity
- If you suspect that someone else has obtained your username, password or answers to recovery questions, you are responsible for deleting your account and creating a new one.
- You should also immediately contact us at 1-833-223-1133 or by email at eservice_support@gov.nt.ca.
Third-party access
- Your personal information may be accessed by third party service providers who work with government department programs, but only if they require it to provide online services. These service providers are legally and contractually required to follow the same privacy practices as government departments. Personal information is stored and accessed only in Canada.
