Born in Hay River in 1977, Mr. McKay’s career as a public servant with the Government of the Northwest Territories has spanned 26 years. He began his career as a corrections officer, steadily climbing the ranks to become a corrections supervisor. His leadership skills later led him to the position of deputy warden and eventually to the directorship of the Investigations and Standards Office. In each of these roles he demonstrated his strong commitment to justice, fairness, and the betterment of his community.
Mr. McKay’s dedication to the safety and wellbeing of Hay River residents extends to his 30-year tenure with the Hay River Fire Department. He has also owned and operated Westech Fire and Safety since 1999, highlighting his entrepreneurial nature and commitment to the highest standards of safety.
In terms of civic duty, Mr. McKay has served on Hay River’s Town Council for 15 years. His lengthy tenure has been marked by a commitment to community development, thoughtful governance, and a genuine concern for the welfare of fellow citizens. His impact on council has left a lasting mark, earning him the respect of colleagues and constituents alike.
