Premier announces changes in the senior ranks of the public service

New Exemption for Income Assistance Clients

YELLOWKNIFE (December 3, 2012) – A new exemption for Income Assistance clients came into effect December 1, 2012.  Jackson Lafferty, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) introduced the change which allows individuals receiving payments under Impact Benefits Agreements (IBA), treaties or land claim settlements to claim an exemption of up to $500 per year for each household member when determining eligibility for Income Assistance (IA).

Health Behaviour in School-aged Children Report - Nov. 6, 2012

Mr. Speaker, healthy behaviours and healthy choices are fundamental to a good education and superior quality of life.  Schools offer a significant opportunity to educate young people about healthy lifestyles and to foster healthy behaviours. In the Northwest Territories, schools play a strong central role in health promotion. New Financial Literacy Curriculum Launched

YELLOWKNIFE (November 5, 2012) – The Honourable Jackson Lafferty, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) today announced a new curriculum designed  to help people gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to manage their personal finances.

The new curriculum was developed by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) at the suggestion of the NWT’s three operating mines and meets a need they identified for financial literacy training for their staff.
