June 7, 2011 - Starting and running a business in the Village of Fort Simpson has become easier thanks to BizPaL, an online business permit and licence service that saves time spent on paperwork.
BizPaL is an innovative service that provides entrepreneurs with simplified access to information on the permits and licences they need to establish and run their businesses. BizPal is currently running in Fort Smith and Hay River, as well as Fort Simpson. Eventually all NWT residents will be able to use the system to assist with their small business.
June 6, 2011 - Tourism Week in Canada is being celebrated from June 6-12.
To celebrate, the second annual Fun in the Sun Tourism Week Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, June 9, at the Yellowknife Golf Course. NWT Tourism is sponsoring the event in partnership with the Northern Frontier Visitors Centre. In addition, a barbecue will be held Friday, June 10, outside the Visitor Information Centre in Fort Simpson. The barbecue will feature a draw for various prizes donated by local tourism businesses.
June 3, 2011 - A new, larger and more-modern facility is now open for visitors at the NWT/Alberta border. The 60th Parallel Visitors Centre provides a variety of ways to learn about tourism possibilities within the NWT, including interactive digital displays and arts and crafts exhibits.
May 19, 2011 - The Northwest Territories (NWT) Energy Report was released today by the Ministerial Energy Coordinating Committee (MECC). Highlights of the report include: opportunities to develop alternative energy sources, reducing the high cost of energy in the territory and an overview of GNWT energy projects and programs.
May 9, 2011- Motorists entering the Northwest Territories on Highway #1 are being greeted by a new welcome sign today.
“We are proud to have a colourful new welcome sign that was designed and manufactured in the NWT and creates a great first impression for visitors as they drive in to the territory,” said Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Bob McLeod.
May 2, 2011 - Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister Bob McLeod and Nunakput MLA and Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure member Jackie Jacobson, will be in Houston, Texas from May 2-5 attending the 2011 Offshore Technology Energy Conference. Along with attending meetings with key industry stakeholders, they will promote oil and gas development in the Northwest Territories.
May 2, 2011 - Fred Henne Territorial Park has been recognized as a Favourite Overall RV Destination in the 2011 Reader's Choice Awards from RV West Magazine.
Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod says the award is a significant accomplishment because it is awarded by people who have camped in the park and reflects the results and accomplishments of ITI park staff and contractors dedicated to ensuring that the park is kept in top-notch condition for visitors to enjoy.
April 1, 2011 - Camping NWT, the online reservation system for territorial campgrounds, is ready today. Residents and visitors can book campsites online at www.campingnwt.ca. The Camping NWT site contains information about the campgrounds, site availability and campsite rates.

March 31, 2011 - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) recently held a workshop with representatives from the NWT film industry to discuss how the government can provide support to the industry.
A main focus of discussion was on the importance of creating a Film Industry Association, and steps are now being taken to coordinate the establishment of an Association. Attendees felt an Association would help ensure the film industry has a unified voice to advocate for the NWT film industry members and act as a liaison with the GNWT.
