NWT Must Focus On Tourism Opportunities ─ ITI Minister

November 26, 2010 - Now is the time to focus on emerging opportunities in the Northwest Territories tourism industry says Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod.

Speaking to delegates at the NWT Tourism Annual General Meeting and Conference in Inuvik, Minister McLeod says the NWT tourism sector is poised for growth as more travellers seek out authentic, unique experiences – something the Northwest Territories has in abundance.

Trapping Workshops in the Beaufort Delta

November 25, 2010 - A series of GNWT funded trapping workshops in the Beaufort Delta is one way in which the GNWT is maintaining the NWT’s international reputation for harvesting high quality wild fur.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), Bob McLeod says the workshops are a key element in the GNWT’s ongoing efforts to keep the NWT fur industry strong and vibrant, providing jobs and opportunities to our residents.

Aboriginal Tourism Consultation

November 17, 2010 - The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) , Tourism and Parks Division will be hosting an Aboriginal Tourism Consultation workshop from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on November 24, 2010 in Inuvik.

The recommendations in Building the Aboriginal Tourism Product report will be discussed, as well as ITI action items and next steps.

Outdoor Adventure Workshop

November 16, 2010 - The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is hosting a one day Outdoor Adventure Workshop in Inuvik on November 23, 2010.

The goal of the workshop is to generate ideas for diversifying or enhancing existing products, developing new products and expanding target markets for the Outdoor Adventure Operators. The objectives are to:

Tourism Product Diversification and Marketing Program

November 16, 2010 - Representatives from the GNWT's department of Industry, Tourism and Investment will be visiting the community of Fort Liard on Wednesday to talk about programs that provide funding to tourism providers and arts and crafts makers. From 1 to 4 p.m., Racquel Michaud will speak to community members about the department's Tourism Product Diversification and Marketing Program.

Łue Túé Sųlái Area

November 10, 2010 - The Łue Túé Sųlái area in the Dehcho region has been recommended as a Candidate Conservation Area under the NWT Protected Areas Strategy.

In November of 2009, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) received a proposal from the Jean Marie River First Nation requesting protection of Łue Túé Sųlái, also known as Five Fish Lakes. During the GNWT review of the proposal, it was decided ITI should sponsor the area.
