78 Get Active NWT Grants Awarded



November14, 2011 – Get Active NWT grants have been awarded to 78 community groups in the Northwest Territories (NWT) to provide support to organize events that will help residents get active this year. Applications were received from groups in all 33 communities and events will be held across the territory in the coming months.

Minister of MACA Statement on Community Emergency Preparedness

August 19, 2011 - The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Robert McLeod congratulates the communities of Fort Smith and Déline for performing admirably during their emergency situations this past year. The minister emphasizes how important it is to have trained people in the communities to deal with these types of emergency situations: knowing what to do will save lives.

Mr. Speaker, today I would like to speak about the importance of community emergency training and preparedness.

NWT and Government of Canada Work Together to Increase Emergency Preparedness Capacity

August 19, 2011 - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is working in partnership with the Government of Canada to enhance emergency preparedness and response activities in the NWT.

Seven projects totalling approximately $450,000 received funding in 2010-11. This included a contribution of $194,000 from the Government of Canada through the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) to support Canada’s emergency management priorities – developing valuable learning events and the improvement of telecommunications capacity.

Minister of MACA Congratulates Western Canada Games Participants

August 18, 2011 - The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs congratulates the excellent job done by the NWT's athletes and coaches at the 2011 Western Canada Games held in Kamloops BC.

Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure today to provide Members of the Legislative Assembly with an update on the Northwest Territories’ Team that attended the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games that were hosted by the City of Kamloops, British Columbia, from August 5th to August 14th.

NWT Youth Centres Receive Funding

June 13, 2011 - The Government of the Northwest Territories is investing $500,000 to assist with the operating costs of youth centres in every NWT community.

“Youth Centres Initiative funding helps provide financial support so youth centres across the NWT can focus on developing quality programs that help shape and strengthen our future leaders,” said Robert C. McLeod Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs and Minister responsible for Youth.

2011 Outstanding Volunteers Honoured

June 6, 2011 - NWT volunteers will be recognized at the 2011 Outstanding Volunteer Award ceremony, in Yellowknife on Friday, June 10. The annual awards, presented by Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), are an opportunity to recognize volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions to communities across the territory.

“The people we recognize with the Outstanding Volunteer Awards selflessly devote their time to making our communities a better place,” said Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod.
