December 21, 2010 - Thanks to the 87 Get Active NWT grants, over 250 new and exciting physical activity events will be happening this winter.
The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and the NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA) recently awarded 42 more Get Active NWT grants to community groups across the NWT, on top of the 45 grants distributed in November.
December 11, 2010 - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today to celebrate the completion of the Enterprise Community Centre. The new centre will meet the growing needs of the area, providing much-needed community and municipal office space.
December 2, 2010 - Across the Northwest Territories, new opportunities after school for youth to be active have been created thanks to Active After School funding.
The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod, says active programs after school are important because it is a period when youth tend to be less active.
December 1, 2010 - The recipients of the 2010-2011 High Performance Athlete Grant were announced today by the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod, and the president of the Sport North Federation, Richard Daitch.
“It is great to see so many northern athletes doing so well on the national and international scene,” said Minister McLeod. “We are proud of them all and hope that this grant will assist them in achieving their goals and aspirations and allow them to represent the NWT with pride.”
November 30, 2010 - The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is hosting the third NWT Governance Conference from December 7 – 9, 2010 in Yellowknife.
MACA invites one Council member and your Senior Administration staff to participate in the conference. Travel subsidy is available for 2 participants from your community.
November 5, 2010 - The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is offering the next course, Traditional Games and Sport Coaching, in the Recreation Leadership program, November 15 - 20, 2010 in Inuvik.
The Traditional Games and Sport Coaching course introduces the student to all aspects of traditional Dene and Inuit games and the coaching skills needed to instruct athletes participating in the games. Community Coaching certification will also be provided through the course.
November 2, 2010 - After a successful first round of applications, Get Active NWT grants of $750 were awarded to 45 organizations in 20 different communities by the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and the NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA).
October 27, 2010 - The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod, presented the Department's Strategic Plan today.
