Thank you for meeting with us this evening.

Before Minister McLeod gets into his presentation, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce you to the Northwest Territories and some of the challenges we face.

The Northwest Territories has just over 44,000 residents living in 33 communities.

Its communities are spread out from the southern border with the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta to Banks Island in the Arctic Ocean.

Le premier ministre Bob McLeod et ses collègues du Conseil exécutif rencontrent des ministres et députés fédéraux ainsi que des membres de comités permanents parlementaires cette semaine afin de discuter des trois priorités des Territoires du Nord-Ouest relativement au Cadre pancanadien sur le changement climatique.

Mr. Speaker, the vision of a strong, healthy territory is shared by the Members of the 18^th Legislative Assembly, Northwest Territories residents, non-governmental organizations across the Northwest Territories, and by our public servants. Investing in our people through organizations such as the United Way Northwest Territories brings us closer to that vision.

On behalf of myself and my co-chair Todd Parsons, President of the Union of Northern Workers, I am pleased to announce this year’s staff payroll campaign kicked-off on Friday, October 21, 2016.

My thanks to the NWT Chamber of Commerce for their work in organizing this conference, and for the opportunity to share some thoughts with you today.

Grand Chief, elders, community leaders, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today. It is a pleasure to be back in Jean Marie River and to see many familiar faces.

There have been a few changes since the last Dehcho First Nations Annual General Assembly.

A new Liberal government was elected in Ottawa and my brother Michael was elected to represent the Northwest Territories as part of that government. This is the first time in many years that the NWT has been represented by a Member of Parliament that sits on the government side.
