Grand Chief, elders, community leaders, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today. It is a pleasure to be back in Jean Marie River and to see many familiar faces.

There have been a few changes since the last Dehcho First Nations Annual General Assembly.

A new Liberal government was elected in Ottawa and my brother Michael was elected to represent the Northwest Territories as part of that government. This is the first time in many years that the NWT has been represented by a Member of Parliament that sits on the government side.

Good afternoon and thank you all for being here today to join in celebrating National Aboriginal Day.

It was 20 years ago today that Canada celebrated its first National Aboriginal Day, a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples to our nation.

Pendant plus de 60 ans, il a piloté des avions de brousse pour transporter des résidents et des marchandises en provenance et à destination de bon nombre de nos collectivités éloignées du Nord.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment in its Mandate to create a new three-year Energy Action Plan, building on previous investments made over the past three years and the outcomes of the Energy Plan review.

As you have heard from the Minister of Public Works and Services, the Government of the Northwest Territories has accomplished a great deal in the areas of energy conservation and efficiency, and in implementing alternative and renewable energy solutions in recent years.

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to welcome Members back to the Legislative Assembly for our spring sitting.

Our first months as an Assembly were spent working together to define our priorities and agree on a mandate for the government.

Our work was guided by a new process convention on priority setting that all Members agreed to.

Vancouver, le 5 mai 2016 – Le premier ministre adjoint Robert C. McLeod a annoncé aujourd’hui que le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) donnera 50 000 $ au fonds « Feux de forêt en Alberta » de la Croix-Rouge canadienne. Le don, offert au nom des résidents des Territoires du Nord‑Ouest, aidera les victimes du feu de forêt qui fait actuellement rage dans la région de Fort McMurray.

Yellowknife, le 4 mai 2016 – Le premier ministre des TNO, Bob McLeod, a fait la déclaration suivante au sujet des feux de Fort McMurray en Alberta :

« Au nom du gouvernement et des résidents des Territoires du Nord-Ouest, je tiens à exprimer ma compassion aux résidents de Fort McMurray. Notre gouvernement se tient prêt à apporter son aide pendant et après les incendies de végétation qui ravagent actuellement leur collectivité.

Yellowknife, le 29 avril 2016 – Le premier ministre, Bob McLeod, a nommé M^me Kate Hearn comme sous-ministre du ministère de l’Administration des terres par intérim.

Le 8 mai, M^me Hearn remplacera M. Mark Warren, qui partira à la retraite.
