Premier's Opening Remarks - Akaitcho Territory Dene First Nations and GNWT sign of Memorandum of Understanding

(May 23, 2013) - I am very pleased to be here today for our first Akaitcho Dene First Nation – Government of the Northwest Territories Intergovernmental Meeting.

These meetings are very important for allowing us to make progress on a wide range of issues of importance to the people we represent, and I thank you all for being here today.

Today’s meeting will mark a significant event between our two governments, with the signing of this intergovernmental cooperation MOU.

Akaitcho Territory Dene First Nations and GNWT sign Memorandum of Understanding

YELLOWKNIFE (May 23, 2013) – Chiefs of the Akaitcho Territory Dene First Nations and Members of the Executive Council of the 17th Legislative Assembly met today in Yellowknife and signed an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding (MOU) recognizing the importance of their government-to-government relationship.

President Graham, colleagues, guests, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for the invitation to join you this morning.

This is the first chance that I have had to speak outside of the Assembly since I stood alongside the Prime Minister and five of our Territory’s Aboriginal Leaders to announce that the heavy lifting is done and that we have reached consensus on the terms of a final devolution agreement.

Sambaa K’e Dene Band Awarded First Excellence in Water Stewardship Award for the Northwest Territories

YELLOWKNIFE (March 22, 2013) – The Sambaa K’e Dene Band is winner of the first Council of the Federation (COF) Excellence in Water Stewardship Award for the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The award recognizes outstanding achievement, innovative practice and in leadership in the area water stewardship and is presented to organizations, partnerships, business, institutions and communities in each province and territory.
