YELLOWKNIFE (AUGUST 29, 2012) – The Department of Transportation (DOT) has been recognized for innovative management by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC).  DOT was one of nine national finalists for the IPAC/IBM Award for Innovative Management for its New Aboriginal Engagement Processes for Planning Major Infrastructure Projects. The submission, which was for planning and consultation work required for the Mackenzie Valley Highway Project, came in second overall.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 24, 2012) – Premier Bob McLeod has announced Gabriela Eggenhofer as the new Deputy Minister for the Department of Education, Culture and Employment. This appointment will be effective September 10, 2012.

FORT PROVIDENCE (August 17, 2012) – Catherine Beaulieu Bouvier Lamoureux will be celebrated as a National Historic Person this weekend.

Ms. Lamoureux is the first NWT woman to receive this designation from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

FORT MCPHERSON (August 16, 2012) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), the Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) and the Gwich’in Renewable Resources Board (GRRB) signed the Gwich'in Forest Management Plan: A Framework for Forest Management in the Gwich’in Settlement Area in Fort McPherson this morning.

The plan was signed by GTC President Robert A. Alexie, NWT Minister of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) J. Michael Miltenberger and GRRB Interim Chair Eugene Pascal.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 15, 2012) -- Drive with extra caution: that's the message for drivers on highways 3, 5, and 7 from mid-August until mid-December.  The additional caution is required because more than 75% of bison collisions in the Northwest Territories occur during this four-month period. 

YELLOWKNIFE (August 15, 2012) – Premier Bob McLeod has announced Sylvia Haener as the new Deputy Minister for the Department of Justice. This appointment will be effective as of 5pm on August 31.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 14, 2012) — Seven scholarships under the Aviation Career Development Program (ACDP) have been awarded to first-time recipients in the first intake of the 2012-2013 school year. ACDP helps support NWT students to pursue careers in the NWT’s aviation industry.

NORMAN WELLS (August 2, 2012) – The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was presented to Mr. Richard Hardy yesterday during the Sahtu Secretariat Inc. Annual General Assembly.

The Honourable Glen Abernethy and the Honourable Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Chairperson of the Sahtu Secretariat, presented the Diamond Jubilee Medal to Mr. Hardy.

YELLOWKNIFE (July 30, 2012) – The 2012-2017 schedule identifying species to be assessed to determine if they are at risk has been released by the Northwest Territories (NWT) Species at Risk Committee.

The Species at Risk Committee reviews the species status assessment schedule every year and revises it as needed.
