Reading Flash Mob!

September 28, 2011 - An odd mob of readers suddenly appeared outside the Greenstone Building for Yellowknife’s first ever Reading Flash Mob to celebrate NWT Literacy Week.

Readers, ranging from a daycare class of 4 and 5 year olds to office workers, public servants and passing pedestrians read with linked arms in front of the Greenstone Building to demonstrate their passion for reading.

Northwest Territories Recipients Honoured During Literacy Week

September 27, 2011 - Recipients of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award and the Ministerial Literacy Awards, including a Youth Learner Literacy Award were honoured today during an Adult Learners’ Luncheon in Yellowknife.

Sylvia Clement - Council of the Federation Literacy Award is given to an adult learner has overcome obstacles and demonstrated outstanding progress in the pursuit of literacy skills in any of the NWT official languages.

September 26, 2011 - The Department of Education, Culture and Employment, Aurora College and the NWT Literacy Council invite all media to attend the 2011 Adult Learner’s LuncheonThis celebration of learning is part of the NWT Literacy Week celebrations and features the presentation of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award and the NWT Ministerial Literacy Awards.

Celebrating Arts Week in the NWT

September 23, 2011 - September 23 to October 2, 2011 is NWT Arts Week, a celebration of the arts and fine crafts community and the significant cultural and economic contributions the arts and crafts sector makes to NWT communities.   Various events are being held to showcase the diverse talent of NWT artists, allow artists to develop their skills through workshops, and provide networking opportunities. In the NWT, the production of arts and fine crafts is also an important element of a diversified economy.
